Remembrance Week 2024

A Time to Honour Our Heroes

This week, from November 5th to 11th, we observe Remembrance Week — a time to reflect on the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of those who have served, and continue to serve, our country. Whether in times of conflict or peace, Canada’s service members and their families have given so much to protect our freedom and way of life. This is our opportunity to express our gratitude and remember their dedication.

From the brave men and women who fought on the frontlines to those who serve in peacekeeping missions today, Remembrance Week gives us a moment to reflect on the tremendous cost of conflict. For our service members, the sacrifices are many — from physical and mental tolls to time away from loved ones. The effects are felt by families, friends, and entire communities as well.

This Remembrance Week, we encourage everyone to take part in honoring our military heroes. You can show your respect in several meaningful ways:

  • Wear a Poppy: A simple, yet powerful symbol of remembrance and gratitude.
  • Observe a Moment of Silence: Take a pause to reflect on the lives lost and the sacrifices made.
  • Attend a Local Ceremony: Join together with your community to pay tribute to those who served.
  • Give Direct Thanks: If you know a soldier or veteran, take a moment to personally thank them for their service and sacrifice.

Additionally, we invite you to join us for the Queen’s Park Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11 at 10:45 a.m., either in person or online. This event serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of remembrance, and the deep respect we owe to those who have served our nation.

Remembrance Week is not only a time to reflect, but a chance for all of us to stand shoulder to shoulder with our veterans, active service members, and military families. Their sacrifices have shaped the Canada we know today — let’s take this opportunity to express our gratitude and ensure their legacy lives on.
