Ontario Supporting Victims and Survivors of Crime
London Police Service will receive $150,000 to help expand services for victims of hate crimes.
LONDON — The Ontario government is investing more than $3 million to support victims and survivors of crime. The funding is being delivered through the Victim Support Grant (VSG) program and includes $150,00 for London Police Service.
London Police Service will work with Muslim and Jewish communities in the city to build a dedicated online hate-incident reporting platform.
“Tackling crime and supporting victims is key to building safer, stronger communities,” said Rob Flack, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London. “This funding will ensure that survivors of crime, including those affected by hate-motivated incidents, have the support they need.”
“Our government recognizes the devastating impact that crime can have on its victims and survivors,” said Solicitor General Michael Kerzner. “Through this grant program, we’re helping to ensure that victims of crime feel safe and supported.”
“Hate-motivated incidents can’t be addressed by police alone. Real progress comes through inclusive, culturally responsive service and strong partnerships with affected communities”, said London Police Chief Thai Truong. Support from the Victim Support Grant will help us track these harms and ensure victims and communities get the support they need to feel safe again.”
The Victim Support Grant is part of Ontario’s Guns, Gangs and Violence Reduction Strategy and complements the province’s $307 million Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy, 2020-2025 and Combating Human Trafficking Act, 2021.
